The NIR is often called the vegetation band and this enhancement therefore shows the vegetation in red. The human eye can distinguish more variation in the colour red than in the colour green or the colour blue, and so this enhancement is very useful in displaying zones of healthy versus unhealthy vegetation in a simple colour composite.
