KOMPSAT-7 Earth Observation Satellite Launch Coming This Week

Exciting news for the geospatial and Earth observation community! Our partner, SI Imaging Services (SIIS), is preparing for the highly anticipated launch of KOMPSAT-7, Korea’s next-generation high-resolution Earth observation satellite developed by the Korea Aerospace Research Institute (KARI). The flight duration from liftoff to satellite separation is expected to be approximately 45 minutes.

Part of the trusted KOMPSAT series, this new satellite will further enhance capabilities in very high-resolution optical and infrared imaging, supporting critical missions like disaster response, environmental monitoring, and land management. KOMPSAT-7 features a 30cm optical sensor alongside a powerful infrared sensor, offering even more precise, multi-modal Earth observation data.

The satellite is scheduled to launch into a sun-synchronous orbit on Tuesday, 2nd December, 2025 at 03:21 AM (AEST) from the Guiana Space Centre aboard a VEGA-C rocket.
